Respondent Identity « Back

What are respondent identities and why use them?

Respondents can be defined in several different ways for online surveys:

  • As a person, who completes or is invited to complete a survey.
  • As a record, created in the database that is represented by a unique respondent ID.
  • As an entity, known by the key identifier, from which respondent lists can be compiled for the survey administrator to track and manage the survey process.
  • As a trait, created from attributes which can be cross-tabulated with responses.
  • As a group member, included in reporting for a respondent group.

For E-valuate-IT surveys, respondents are made known to the administrator through their key identifiers (such as First Name, Last Name, Student ID, Employee ID) and can also have attributes (such as Email, Gender, Department, Age group) associated with them. Key identifiers and attributes are established and customized by the survey administrator.

Use the respondent structure to:

  • Track respondent entities to determine who has responded, saved a draft, or are yet to respond. You can also follow who has been sent an email message and manage bounced email. These functions are not connected with actual survey responses.
  • Identify open-ended responses if respondents are not anonymous (by choice or design).
  • Export response data including attributes for further analysis (identifiers included where no anonymity).
  • Drill-down to report cross-tabulated results based on respondent attribute details.

All respondents are automatically advised about their level of anonymity on each survey and whether any personal information supplied at login may be linked to survey data.

Create the respondent structure to suit your requirements and add value to your survey activity.
